Slack fill

The difference between the actual capacity of a container and the volume of product it holds. This empty space within a package is considered non-functional if it does not serve a legitimate purpose, such as protecting the product or accommodating settling. Regulations exist to prevent deceptive slack fill that misleads consumers about the amount of product inside.
