Smelting

A pyrometallurgical process that extracts a base metal from its ore by heating it to a high temperature in the presence of a reducing agent. This chemical reduction separates the desired metal from other elements in the ore. Smelting is a primary step in the production of metals like iron, copper, and lead from their respective mineral concentrates.
