Soffietta
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005443
A glassmaker's tool consisting of a metal tube, often swan-necked, ending in a conical nozzle. The nozzle is held against the mouth of a vessel to seal it, so that blowing into the tube inflates the vessel further. It lets the worker inflate a piece that is already open at the mouth, such as one held on a punty, where the original blowpipe is no longer attached.
