A mooring line used to prevent a vessel from moving fore and aft along a dock or pier. These lines run diagonally from the ship to the shore, either forward (forward spring) or aft (after spring) of the ship's position. They work in conjunction with head lines and stern lines to secure the vessel against tidal currents and wind forces.
