An acronym for Tuned Port Injection, a fuel injection system developed by General Motors and used on V8 engines from 1985 to 1992. The system is visually distinguished by its long, individual intake runners that deliver air to each cylinder, a design intended to increase airflow velocity at low engine speeds. This design improved low-end torque and throttle response in vehicles such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro.
