UHV
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007340
An abbreviation for ultra-high vacuum, a pressure regime characterized by extremely low gas density. This environment is necessary for processes that are highly sensitive to contamination from residual gas molecules, including semiconductor fabrication and surface science experiments. UHV is formally defined as a pressure range below 10⁻⁷ pascal (approximately 10⁻⁹ torr), achieved using multi-stage pump systems inside stainless steel or titanium chambers.
