Laminar

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003234

Describing a fluid flow regime characterized by smooth, parallel layers with no disruption or mixing between them. In this type of flow, fluid particles move in straight lines parallel to the pipe or channel walls. Laminar flow occurs at low velocities, below a certain threshold defined by the Reynolds number, which for internal pipe flow is approximately 2300.
