An automobile classification, Ultra Low-Cost Vehicle, for cars designed with minimal features and manufactured with inexpensive materials to achieve a very low purchase price. These vehicles are targeted at consumers in emerging markets to make new car ownership more accessible. The most prominent example is the Tata Nano, which launched in India in 2008 with an initial price of approximately 100,000 rupees.
