Uncanny valley
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006316
A hypothesis in robotics and aesthetics describing the phenomenon where human replicas that appear almost, but not exactly, like real human beings elicit feelings of eeriness and revulsion in observers. This effect occurs when the resemblance is close enough to be familiar but also highlights subtle imperfections. The concept suggests a threshold in human-likeness beyond which acceptance declines before increasing again.
