Undercutter

A specialized mining machine designed to cut a horizontal slot at the base of a coal seam or ore body. This cut creates a free face, allowing the overlying material to be broken more easily by subsequent blasting or mechanical extraction. Early models were hand-operated, while modern versions are often integrated into continuous mining systems.
