Unground
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006349
Describing an electrical circuit or system that lacks a direct, intentional connection to an earth ground reference. In an ungrounded system, the neutral point is not tied to ground, which can allow the system to continue operating during a single line-to-ground fault. These systems require specialized ground-fault detection equipment to alert personnel to the fault condition before a second fault creates a more hazardous phase-to-phase short circuit.
