Virial
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006457
Relating to a series expansion, known as the virial equation of state, that describes the properties of a real gas by correcting the ideal gas law for intermolecular forces. The equation expresses the compressibility factor (the ratio PV/RT) as a power series in molar density, with coefficients that account for interactions between pairs, triplets, and larger groups of molecules. The second virial coefficient is the most dominant correction term and relates directly to the potential energy between two interacting molecules.
