A recessed area or depression formed into a sheet metal part or stamping, such as a spare tire well in a vehicle's trunk floor. The well increases the structural stiffness of the panel and provides a cavity for mounting components or for clearance. This feature is created during the stamping process using a die that draws the metal into the desired shape without tearing or wrinkling.
