X-by-wire
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006682
A system in a vehicle where electronic controls replace traditional mechanical linkages for functions like steering, braking, or throttle. The driver's input is converted into an electrical signal, sent to an electronic control unit, which then commands an actuator to perform the action. This replacement of mechanical systems is seen in throttle-by-wire, brake-by-wire, and steer-by-wire technologies, with throttle-by-wire being the most widespread implementation in modern cars.
