Additional insured (AI)

A person or organization, not the primary policyholder, who is granted a degree of protection under an insurance policy. This status is conferred through an endorsement, giving the additional insured (AI) coverage for liability arising out of the named insured's operations or premises. For example, a general contractor requires subcontractors to list them as an additional insured on the subcontractor's general liability policy.
