Statements or claims made by a party in a legal proceeding, asserting facts that they intend to prove. In insurance, allegations in a lawsuit or demand letter trigger the insurer's duty to defend the insured, even if the allegations are ultimately found to be false. The nature of the allegations determines whether a claim falls within policy coverage.
