Contribution by equal shares

A method of apportioning liability among multiple insurers when two or more policies cover the same loss. Each insurer pays an equal share of the loss until the share paid by any insurer equals its policy limit. The remaining insurers then contribute equally to the remaining loss until their limits are reached.
