Coordination of coverage

A provision in insurance policies that determines the order in which multiple policies pay benefits when an insured has coverage from more than one source for the same loss. This prevents overpayment or duplicate payments for a single claim. It is commonly found in health insurance policies to establish primary and secondary payers.
