The state or country where an insurance company is incorporated and maintains its principal place of business. This jurisdiction is where the insurer is primarily regulated and subject to its insurance laws and solvency requirements. An insurer's domicile determines whether it is classified as a domestic, foreign, or alien insurer in other jurisdictions.
