Multiple indemnity

A provision in a life insurance policy that increases the death benefit payable if the insured's death results from a specific, accidental cause. This clause provides for the payment of a sum that is a multiple (e.g., double or triple) of the policy's face amount under defined circumstances. It applies only to accidental deaths and does not cover deaths from natural causes or illness.
