Protection and indemnity (P&I) insurance

A form of marine insurance that covers shipowners for third-party liabilities arising from the operation of their vessels. This includes liabilities for injury, illness, or death of crew members, passengers, or other persons, as well as damage to cargo, pollution, and collision liabilities. P&I clubs, mutual associations of shipowners, typically provide this coverage.
