Nonstandard insurer

An insurance company that specializes in providing coverage to individuals or businesses that do not meet the underwriting criteria of standard insurers. These companies cater to higher-risk policyholders, such as those with poor driving records, unusual property characteristics, or specialized business operations. Premiums charged by nonstandard insurers are generally higher to reflect the increased risk exposure.
