Percentage participation

The portion of a loss that an insured individual or entity must bear, expressed as a percentage of the total covered loss. This concept is common in property and health insurance, where the insured pays a specified percentage after the deductible has been met. For instance, a 20% participation means the insured pays 20% of the remaining claim.
