Pluvial flooding

Flooding caused by heavy rainfall that overwhelms the drainage capacity of an area, leading to surface water accumulation. This type of flooding can occur independently of an overflowing river or coastal storm surge. Standard homeowner's insurance policies typically exclude pluvial flooding, requiring a separate flood insurance policy.
