Preferred provider organization (PPO)

A type of managed care health insurance plan where members pay less if they use providers within the plan's network. These providers have agreed to offer services at discounted rates to the PPO members. Members can use out-of-network providers but incur higher costs, such as larger deductibles and co-payments.
