York Antwerp Rules (YAR)

A set of internationally recognized rules governing the adjustment of general average in maritime law. These rules provide a framework for determining which losses and expenses incurred to save a ship and its cargo from common peril should be shared proportionally by all parties involved in the maritime venture. The current version, the York-Antwerp Rules 2016, is widely adopted in marine insurance contracts and bills of lading.
