Ademption by extinction

The failure of a specific bequest in a will because the property bequeathed is no longer in the testator's estate at the time of their death. If the specific item is sold, destroyed, or otherwise disposed of before the testator's death, the beneficiary receives nothing. This doctrine applies only to specific gifts, not general or demonstrative bequests.
