General bequest

A gift of property made in a will that is payable out of the general assets of the estate, rather than from a specific, identifiable asset. This type of bequest does not specify a particular item or fund. For example, a gift of "$10,000 to my niece" is a general bequest, as opposed to a specific bequest of a particular painting.
