Specific bequest

A gift of a particular, identifiable item of personal property made in a will. The testator designates a specific asset, such as a named piece of jewelry or a particular car, to a named beneficiary. If the specified item is no longer part of the estate at the time of death, the bequest may fail, a concept known as ademption.
