Admiralty law

A distinct body of law, also known as maritime law, governing legal disputes and transactions that occur on navigable waters. Its scope includes subjects such as shipping, navigation, commerce, marine insurance, salvage, and injuries to seamen. In the United States, Article III of the Constitution grants federal courts jurisdiction over admiralty cases, establishing a uniform system of law for maritime matters that is largely separate from state law.
