Jones Act

A federal statute, formally known as the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, that regulates maritime commerce in the United States. It provides seamen with the right to sue their employers for negligence that causes injury or death in the course of their employment. The Act also requires that goods shipped between U.S. ports be carried on U.S.-built, U.S.-owned, and U.S.-crewed vessels.
