Adverse interest

A financial or personal stake that conflicts with the interests of another party, particularly in a legal or fiduciary relationship. This conflict can arise when an individual or entity has a motive to act in a way that is detrimental to someone they are supposed to represent or advise. Lawyers are prohibited from representing clients with adverse interests without informed consent.
