A cognitive bias where an individual relies too heavily on an initial piece of information, or 'anchor,' when making decisions or judgments. In legal settings, this can occur when jurors or judges are influenced by an initial damage request or settlement offer. This bias can affect negotiations, jury awards, and judicial rulings.
