Angel investor

An affluent individual who provides capital for a business start-up, typically in return for an equity stake or a convertible note. Unlike venture capitalists who manage pooled money from others in a professionally managed fund, angel investors use their own personal funds. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission defines an accredited investor, a category that includes most angels, as someone with a net worth over $1 million or a specified annual income.
