Arguendo

For the sake of argument; a phrase introducing a hypothetical premise in a legal argument without conceding its truth. Lawyers use this to explore the logical consequences of a point, showing that their own conclusion remains valid even if an opponent's assertion were true. For instance, a defense attorney might argue that, arguendo, even if their client was at the scene, the prosecution has failed to prove the necessary criminal intent.
