Chattel paper

A record or records that evidence both a monetary obligation and a security interest in specific goods, or a lease of specific goods. It represents a hybrid of a promissory note and a security agreement, often arising from retail installment sales. Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code governs the creation and perfection of security interests in chattel paper.
