Bearer paper

A negotiable instrument, such as a check or promissory note, that is payable to the person who holds it, rather than to a specifically named payee. Ownership of bearer paper transfers upon delivery, making it highly liquid but also susceptible to loss or theft. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) governs its characteristics and transferability.
