Indorse

To sign one's name on the back of a negotiable instrument, such as a check or promissory note, to transfer ownership or to guarantee payment. This act, also spelled 'endorse,' makes the indorser liable for payment if the primary obligor defaults. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) governs the legal effects of indorsements.
