Dishonor

To refuse to pay or accept a negotiable instrument, such as a check or promissory note, when it is properly presented for payment or acceptance. This occurs when the drawee or maker fails to fulfill their obligation according to the terms of the instrument. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) governs the rights and liabilities of parties when an instrument is dishonored.
