Holder

A person in possession of a negotiable instrument, such as a check or promissory note, that is payable either to bearer or to an identified person who is the person in possession. This individual has the right to enforce payment of the instrument. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) defines the rights and responsibilities of a holder.
