Presentment

The formal exhibition of a document, such as a bill of exchange or promissory note, for acceptance or payment. It is a demand for payment or acceptance made by the holder of a negotiable instrument to the drawee or maker. Failure to make proper presentment can discharge secondary parties from liability on the instrument under the Uniform Commercial Code.
