Without recourse

A phrase used in endorsing a negotiable instrument, such as a check or promissory note, to disclaim any secondary liability of the endorser. By adding this language, the endorser transfers the instrument but does not guarantee payment if the primary party defaults. This type of endorsement limits the endorser's liability solely to warranties concerning the instrument's authenticity and the endorser's good title, as specified in the Uniform Commercial Code.
