Disincentive

A factor or consideration that discourages or deters a particular action or behavior. In law, disincentives are often built into statutes or regulations to discourage undesirable conduct, such as penalties for non-compliance or higher taxes on certain activities. For example, punitive damages serve as a disincentive for egregious misconduct.
