Constitutional tort

A civil wrong committed by a government official acting under color of state law that violates a person's constitutional rights. This type of claim allows individuals to seek damages for injuries caused by such violations. Section 1983 of the U.S. Code provides a common basis for bringing constitutional tort claims against state and local officials.
