Marital tort

A civil wrong committed by one spouse against the other during the marriage, for which the injured spouse can seek monetary damages. These torts can include assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, or false imprisonment. Historically, the doctrine of interspousal immunity prevented such lawsuits, but most jurisdictions have abolished or limited this immunity.
