Contempt of court, civil

A form of contempt intended to coerce compliance with a court order for the benefit of another party in a lawsuit. The contemnor holds the 'keys to the jailhouse' and can purge the contempt by fulfilling the court's directive. Sanctions typically involve fines or imprisonment until compliance is achieved.
