A legal citation signal used to indicate that the cited authority states a proposition opposite to the one in the main text. When used in a legal brief or memorandum, it alerts the reader that the source directly contradicts the preceding statement or argument. This signal is distinct from "compare," which introduces an authority that offers a different but not directly contradictory line of reasoning.
