Negative signal

A citation signal that tells the reader the cited authority contradicts or runs contrary to the proposition in the text. The negative signals are 'contra', which cites authority directly opposing the proposition, 'but see', which cites authority clearly supporting a contrary proposition, and 'but cf.', which cites authority supporting a proposition analogous to the contrary.
