Copyright registration

The formal process of recording a claim of copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office. While copyright protection arises automatically upon creation of an original work, registration provides several legal advantages, including the ability to sue for infringement and the potential to recover statutory damages and attorney's fees. It also creates a public record of the copyright claim.
