Decree of distribution

A formal court order issued in probate proceedings that specifies how the assets of a deceased person's estate are to be divided and distributed among the legal heirs or beneficiaries. This decree legally transfers title to the property from the estate to the designated recipients. It is issued after all debts, taxes, and administrative expenses have been settled.
